Equality Mechanism Turns 11

2 May 2025 marks the 11th anniversary of the establishment of the national anti-discrimination mechanism.

Over the past 11 years, the Public Defender has examined more than 1,500 cases of alleged discrimination, issued 110 recommendations, 53 general proposals, and concluded 4 settlement agreements; submitted 28 amicus curiae opinions, sent 26 appeals to the relevant respondents regarding equality issues and called for specific measures; prepared 13 special reports, 1 manual, 6 videos and 2 e-learning courses.

Since 2014, a number of positive steps have been taken to improve the situation of equality in the country through the efforts of the national anti-discrimination mechanism, local and international organizations, various public institutions and private companies. However, unfortunately, the recent legislative changes have become the basis for a number of challenges.

It is important for the State to promote the construction of an equal society and implement legislative and executive policies for this goal.

On the other hand, the national equality body will actively continue its work focused on the prevention of discrimination, awareness-raising activities, cooperation with actors working on equality issues and advocacy for anti-discrimination policies.
