Public Defender Meets with Residents of Mejvriskhevi and Akhalubani Villages Located Near Occupation Line
On May 29, 2025, the Public Defender of Georgia, Levan Ioseliani, met with residents of Mejvriskhevi and Akhalubani villages located near the occupation line in Gori municipality.
The conversation with residents made it clear that, unfortunately, the infrastructure in the villages is still in poor condition, and access to various programmes, including social and health care services, is limited. A very important challenge is the migration of the population, mostly young people, which poses a threat to the country of its territories adjacent to the occupation line becoming empty.
"It is necessary for the State to have a special approach towards these 83 villages and do its best to ensure that the population living along the occupation line does not decrease, because wherever we are absent, there is always a danger that someone else will come and take our place," the Public Defender said.
The Public Defender intensively meets with Georgian citizens living along the occupation line and informs both the central and local authorities, as well as the public, about their problems.
